UBCAA Reacts To The Donation Of $35,000 To Radio Stations By Bong County Officials

The National Administration of the United Bong County Association in the Americas (UBCAA) describes as reckless and insensitive recent decisions by members of the Bong County Development Fund under the Chairmanship of Rep. George Mulbah and with full knowledge of the Superintendent of Bong County Hon. Ranney B. Jackson to siphon $35000 from the Bong County Development Funds and donate same to so-called radio stations.

At a time in the history of our county when many important development projects laid incomplete; most times abandoned; when our people live in abject poverty; lack safe drinking water; basic educational facilities; basic health facilities; roads; among others, the Bong County Development Committee under the Chairmanship of Hon. George Mulbah and Supt. Jackson as willing accomplice take solace in donating funds intended for developments to radio stations. This decision does not only signal insensitivity, but it proves to greater extent Hon. Mulbah, members of the Bong County Development Committee and Supt. Jackson's lack of understandings of the plights of our people. When a group of people can have fanfare for donating funds intended for the development of Bong County to unrelated developmental entities and yet express no remorse in failing to complete a 10-mile road from the Bong Mines Highway to Hindi among others, something is wrong with that picture.

In view of the above and other unexplained circumstances surrounding the administration of the Bong County Development Fund and the willingness of Superintendent Ranney B. Jackson to always go along with decisions made by this committee, the United Bong County Association in the Americas is left to believe Superintendent Jackson is not really calling the shot if you will when it comes to the development and administrative priorities of Bong County. Accordingly, the United Bong County Association in the Americas demands the following:

  • That the Bong County Development Committee be re-constituted to include citizens who will make decisions that are purely development-oriented.
  • That the funds donated to the so-called radio stations be immediately returned to the coffers of the Bong Development Fund.
  • That future disbursements from the fund be made after careful deliberations with all stakeholders not just a handful of Gbarnga-Monrovia politicians.

UBCAA attaches serious importance to this communication and urges Hon. George Mulbah, members of the Bong Development Fund, and Supt. Jackson to take this matter seriously and do the right thing – adhere to the above demands. The Bong County Development Fund Committee was set up to identify and fund needed development projects for Bong County and authorize the Superintendent to implement them. It was not set up to be used as tool for apparent political campaign.
