United Bong County Association In America (UBCAA) Resolution of the 17th Annual Convention

WHEREAS the UBCAA established in these United States to foster unity and cohesion amongst the membership; as well as provide humanitarian, social, educational and other form of support to our fellow compatriots in Bong County, Liberia,

WHEREAS members of UBCAA and well wishers sitting at its annual gathering in the City of Hapeville, Georgia under the auspices of the Georgia Chapter of the UBCAA do hereby resolve the following: 

1.    That the issue of land ownership in Liberia has become a source of potential conflict in Liberia hence the need for the national government to pay serious attention to this problem. And that relevant steps need to be taken to forestall violence and other form of disturbances as evidenced by recent reports in Sinoyea District, Bong County and around Liberia over land. To this end UBCAA welcomes government plan to create a Land Reform Commission to address this anomaly.

2.    That the recent land dispute in Darkphansue, Sinoyea District, Bong County resulting in lost of lives and property damage is hereby condemned. We call on the Government of Liberia to take practical measures to avert future occurrence not only in Bong County, but around Liberia. In the same vein, we call on the government of Liberia through the Minister of Internal Affairs Ambulai Johnson to immediately expedite funds allotted for victims of the land dispute in Darkphansue, Sinoyea District, and Bong County. We also call on the government of Liberia through the Minister of Justice to immediately investigate the violence perpetrated against our people in Sinoyea District. United Bong shall continue to monitor the situation, and hope that the Government of Liberia will bring the perpetrators before the justice system as soon as possible so that our people can begin the healing process.

3.    That the Land Reform Committee appointed by the UBCAA is a laudable endeavor. And that the presentation made by this body at this convention is commendable. Therefore, the Committee is hereby mandated to continue to work and make research on this very important issue and make its findings public both to the membership of UBCAA and the Liberian public. Consequently, a legal defense fund should be established by the UBCAA to financially address issue of land reform in Liberia.

4.    Since education of the Youth and people is the hallmark of Development, hence the need for the UBCAA to be in the vanguard for education in Bong County. To this end the Education resource Center Project shall be pursued and implemented as planned by the UBCAA.

5.    That the Liberian civil war and its attendant consequences at resulted in the not only in the lost of lives and properties but created a huge refugee crisis some of whom were resettled in foreign parts and as a result have either consciously or unconsciously assumed citizenship in these countries. Now, therefore, in leur of the event that characterized their flight and the desire of these Liberians to maintain affinity with their homeland of birth; but are now prevented under the Liberian Laws, UBCAA hereby call on the Bong County Legislative Caucus to initiate steps to enact a bill that will pass into law dual citizenship for Liberians.

6.    That Soccer as a unifying force that create oneness among people. We are proud that Bong County is the 2008 Champion of the annual County Meet. This is a milestone in the history of Bong County. UBCAA congratulates the Champions and commends Superintendent Ranney B. Jackson for a job well done. The UBCAA pledge its continued support to Supt. Jackson.

7.    That against the backdrop of many engagements and other activities being held during the memorial weekend; it has been observed that prior engagement of most people around this time is impacting on the attendance and participation of our membership. To address this problem and encourage the participation of our membership; the UBCAA will henceforth host its annual convention during the second week of July of each year until otherwise advised.

8.    That in order for the UBCAA to smoothly facilitate operations in Liberia, practical steps be taken to establish a presence in Liberia by establishing an office in Liberia and appointing a contact person or liaison. Said person shall be nominated by the executive and approved by the Board.

9.    That the UBCAA is appalled by the infighting in the Bong legislative caucus and do hereby call on the caucus to settle their differences so as to forge ahead with developments and other priorities of the people of Bong County.
