UNITED BONG COUNTY ASSOCIATION IN THE AMERICAS EDUCATION COMMITTEE SCHOLARSHIP GUIDLINES

Part I: Introduction: The Education Committee of the United Bong County Association in the Americas, Inc. (UBCAA), in fulfillment of its functions, submits the basic guidelines for scholarship assistance for all qualified students seeking assistance from the Education Committee in support of their educational goals. It is the hope and prayer of he United Bong County Association in the Americas that beneficiaries of the scholarship, once employed, will voluntarily support the funding efforts of the program to ensure its viability. These guidelines, upon approval by the United Bong County Association in the Americas (UBCAA,) will constitute the official process by which scholarship(s) will be granted to all qualified recipients.
Part II: Definitions:

  • · A student is any person verifiably enrolled in an educational institution in pursuit of a diploma, certificate, or degree.
  • · Bong County Citizen or Resident: Any person born in Bong County or born to parents who are citizens of Bong County is a citizen; and any person who lives and works in Bong County for the period of one calendar year is a resident.
  • · Qualified Educational Institution: Any institution of learning or of professional accreditation in the Republic of Liberia that has powers to confer a diploma, degree or to issue certification to graduating students.
  • · Good Academic Standing: Any student who maintains a B-average in all areas of his/her academic work.
  • · Good Behavior: Behavior that is acceptable both in and outside of academic settings.

  • Part III: Qualifications for Scholarship: All citizens and residents of Bong County who meet the conditions herein contained and are in good academic standing shall compete, on equal levels, for scholarship assistance to further their education. Student(s) so qualified shall remain qualified as long as Good Academic Standing status is maintained. In its continuing objectives to help the youths of Bong County attain academic excellence, the UBCAA, since its inception, has been committed to advancing academic excellence in all areas. Towards this end, the Education Committee launches the Scholarship Program and encourages all Bong County citizens and residents who meet the required qualifications for scholarship to make applications to the Committee for consideration. In general, a student must be citizen or resident of Bong County. He/she must have a B-average as an applicant and if selected, he/she commits to maintaining a B-average, or higher throughout the qualifying term of the scholarship. A drop in grade point average below the required level is ground for disqualification for the scholarship. The Education Committee will monitor each scholarship recipient?s adherence to the academic standing requirement at the end of each reporting period, i.e., yearly. Recipients must be a full time student and carry the required hours for full time students at the institution(s). Due to limited financial resources, recipients will receive equal amount of funding for tuition and books regardless of whether the recipients attend public or private institutions in Liberia. Any student who enjoys the UBCAA Scholarship must commit to serving Bong County in the field of training for the period of at lease one (1) year for every two years of scholarship received. The foundation shall request student's records directly from the registrar's office at each institution where the student is enrolled.
